Is fear a secret dream killer in your life?
What would you do if you were unstoppable? Often the biggest obstacle in our way is a lack of confidence.
We all desire a life that is flourishing, full of happiness, love and joy. Imagine what you could achieve if you felt bold, daring, and had a rock star belief in yourself.
If you are ready to find out what’s possible for you, here’s some tips to kick doubt to the curb and boost your self-esteem:
- Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway. Often feelings follow action. As you take steps to doing what you fear, you’ll find that it isn’t so bad. Most of the “stories” you told yourself about it, were just “stories” to keep you from making any changes; so change the story and suddenly the fear vanishes.
This is one of the reasons many people like to skydive. They want to conquer their fear and do it anyway. After they take the leap they feel a new confidence unleashed. If they can jump out of a plane, they can do anything.
So “take the leap” and you may be surprised. - Use Visualization. Shut your eyes and picture yourself achieving your goal. Really silence your mind and feel it in your body, mind and soul. What does it feel like? What do you see around you? Who is there with you celebrating your success?
Completely lose yourself in the experience of ALREADY having reached this goal. Many Olympians use imagery as part of their mental training so that by the time of their big performance, they’ve already accomplished it a thousand times in their head. So can you. - Pump Yourself up with Music. Remember Rocky’s Eye of the Tiger song? It motivated him as he was training and getting ready for the big fight.
What songs energize you? Listen to music as part of your morning routine. Let it wind you up to supercharge so you feel on top of the world. - Treat Yourself to a New Look. When’s the last time you did something for yourself? Remember the scene in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts got some new dresses and dressed herself to the nines? She looked (and felt) like a princess.
You deserve to feel amazing too! Get a new haircut. Have your nails done. Spritz on a new perfume. Get a new power suit. When you dress like a million bucks you feel great too! - Create a Mental Trophy Room. Too often we get caught in all the to-do’s that we forget to acknowledge all the amazing things we have done.
Make a list of all the accomplishments you have achieved. Create your own brag journal and read it when you need to be reminded of the difference you make for yourself and others by doing what you do.
Read over positive testimonials and comments from others. You are unique – and incredible just the way you are right at this moment. - Upgrade Your Community. They say you become the average of the five people you surround yourself with. So spend time with people who lift you up; people who have accomplished their own goals; people who will be your biggest cheer leaders and support you in achieving your big dreams.
Find a Meet Up group, make a friend-time lunch, find a Facebook group, join a coaching group.
And if there are people in your life that steal your energy, drain you with drama, and suck the life out of you – don’t be afraid to let them go. Life is too short. - Make Failure Your Friend. When you change how you view failure, it’s like taking your power back. When you try something that doesn’t work out, you simply learned one more way not to do it.
Keep trying. They odds are in your favor you’ll succeed. Never, never, never, give up. - Straighten Up. The way you hold yourself directly affects your confidence. When you feel scared, you are slumped over. When you straighten up and pull your shoulders back you look and feel more confident.
Also when you strike a pose and put your arms into the air saying “yes!” it makes you feel like a winner! - Smile. Turn that frown upside down. Smile and you’ll feel yourself becoming more happy and confident. What’s even better is that smiles are infectious. When others see your smile they’ll smile back at you.
- Think Positive. Change your thoughts, change your life. Collect motivational quotes that inspire you. Read stories of people who have achieved what you are seeking to do and learn from them.
- Remove Negative Beliefs. Reprogram your negative beliefs into empowering ones. Be aware of your self-talk. Instead of saying “I am not very good at this” say, “I am getting better at this everyday”.
Our thoughts shape our reality so choose good ones.
The secret to making your dreams come true is to find the confidence and belief that it’s possible. Once you embrace that you can do it, all things are within reach.
