The New Rules of Business Leadership for Women

The New Rules of Business Leadership for Women

8 Ways to be Assertive and Win in Business

Want to have a transformational leadership role in business?

Taking charge of your destiny starts with owning your personal power.  As a woman, when you assert your influence, doors open and dream leadership opportunities land on your door step:

You get invited to work on the project you’ve had your eye on.
Your boss offers you the promotion you’ve wanted.

So how can women be more assertive and win in business?

Here are 8 ways that women can own their power, influence and authority:

  1. Recognize and Embrace Your Strengths
Don’t play small.  You are smart and powerful.  Own that.

When you put on that power suit, arm yourself with a mental suit of confidence too. Before walking into a room, take a deep breath; stand with your feet shoulder-width apart; hands on hips; shoulders high – because YOU ARE Superwoman!

Don’t let your inner mean girl damper your belief in yourself and your abilities.

When you believe in yourself others will too.

  2. Be Clear about What You Want
Have a clear vision of what you want and why you want to have it.  Ask yourself:

    • What really lights your soul on fire?
    • Do you have your eye on a better position in the company?
    • What kind of values are important in the company you work for?
    • Who would you love to partner with?
    • What kind of high-end clients would you love to serve?
    • Is it time to write your next chapter and venture out as an entrepreneur?

When you have clarity about what you want, visualize it and communicate your desires; it creates the momentum to make it happen.

Plus, this helps you to stay focused and say ‘no’ to opportunities that don’t help you reach your core objectives.  This way you will move farther and faster in your career.

  3. Deliver Excellence
When you perform above expectations, people are excited to work with you. Give your best every time.  Do more than promised.  Deliver results and your reputation will precede you.
  4. Speak Up
When you are in a meeting or working with others on a project, give your well-thought-out opinion.  You are on the team for a reason and you are expected to contribute equally to the overall success of the project.

Don’t worry that others may not agree with you.  If they don’t that’s ok.  The best decision will be made based on everyone’s expert opinion and it will be better than if you sat their quietly.

  5. Let It Go
Not every person at the office or in your industry will be your biggest fan. When you get that big promotion, don’t allow catty comments like “who did you have to sleep with to get that promotion?” get to you.

Some women may be jealous of your success and find ways to put you down.  There are also men who still hold a gender bias against women in business.

If someone has an issue with you, don’t take it personally.  It’s not about you; it’s about them.

Remember who you are.  Hold your head up. Take the high road and let it go.

  6. Believe You Are A Winner
When you know and project with passion and confidence that you have what it takes, others will notice.

You’ll attract the clients, projects, and opportunities you desire because others know you will deliver!

  7. Embody Authenticity
There is only one you.  Being 100% unapologetically yourself is your biggest strength.  Your biggest competitive advantage is your unique personal styles, experiences, and strengths.

Don’t try to be something you are not.

  8. Get a Mentor or Coach
Invest in personal development to boost your skillset, master your mindset, and increase performance.

Your success is only limited by the investments you make in yourself.
