6 Keys to Finding More Purpose in Your Job

6 Keys to Finding More Purpose in Your Job

Ready to fuel your passion and embrace your purpose?

It’s hard to feel truly engaged in a job if you can’t find passion in your work.  You know what it’s like when you don’t even want to give your best – and the time just drags on and it seems like the day will never end? Ever feel like the trade-off of time for your paycheck just isn’t worth it?

However, when you feel true purpose in your work, you’ll feel like you’ve hardly worked a day in your life.

So how can you escape the feeling of company slavery and embrace feeling more meaning and fulfillment in your job?

Here are 6 Ways to Help Find More Job Purpose

  1. Be in the Moment

When you get caught up into the flow of work, days can go by in a blur.  That’s why it’s important to slow down, be still, and find the meaning in the moment.

Bring your everyday experience of work up to the next level. When you keep looking forward to achieving those big goals, you miss all the little magic moments that are happening right now.

Being present will connect you to your work on a deeper emotional level.

  2. Know your Values

If personal growth is a value of yours, then find ways you can up your game and grow your skills on the job.  Your current job may be a stepping stone to something even better, so prepare yourself and be grateful for the experiences along the way.

When you know what matters to you, it’s easier to focus on creating more of that experience in your work.

  3. Give More Than You Take

Instead of asking yourself, “what am I getting out of my career”, flip the switch.  Find ways that you can give and make a difference.  Personally, I believe it is important that you leave a job better than you found it – and hopefully the next person will come in and put their own touch on it and make it even better.

Mentor a colleague.  Volunteer to take on a big project- especially if it is a huge stretch beyond your comfort zone.  Complement your partner on their work! Acknowledge others’ contributions. Be humble and share the credit.

Express sincere gratitude and you will be amazed at how good you’ll feel.

  4. Create Impact

When you discover a breakthrough that will make a difference, share it.

Perhaps you design a new process that saves time and money.  Maybe you discover a software that will create massive savings for the company.  Create a new Give Back project that helps local kids or senior citizens in the community.

When you create something that is bigger than you, it’s deeply fulfilling.

  5. Know What You Want

What’s next for you? What career and lifestyle goals do you have? What would you like to be doing now that you currently aren’t?

Having clarity around your goals keeps you on track to achieving them.

  6. Celebrate

Don’t wait to celebrate.  Far too many business professionals set goals so lofty they never stop to realize all the incredible things they have done.  They just brush these accomplishments under the rug and keep going.

Grab your journal and make a list of all the significant achievements you have accomplished in the past month.  Then sit back, review, and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.  Be your own best cheerleader.
